40 Days | DAY 38
What is ahead?
Growing up being 5’4, let’s just say I wasn’t the star athlete.
My brother, on the other hand, was an incredible athlete. Just a few inches taller than I am. My brother was able to do things as an athlete that were incredible. He was a walk-on lacrosse player for his college. At 5’6″ he was able to dunk a basketball. To say that I was impressed and a little jealous probably would be a major understatement.
I watched him teach others and even teach me as I grew older. Thinking about my brother often makes me think of the statement that Paul says. Forgetting what is behind and moving towards what is ahead to win the rings that God has won for us in Christ.
As a kid I often thought it was my limitations that hindered me from being an incredible athlete. No doubt that had some part in it but the truth of the matter is, it was how I view myself and how I viewed my limitations. My brother being an incredible athlete and a great coach was able to pull out of me what I couldn’t even pull out of myself. Paul understood that in order for him to be who God wanted him to be, he needed to forget what was behind him and move towards what was ahead. He could only do that by realizing all that God has done for him and in Christ.
So with that, I wonder how many of us limit ourselves, our lives, our spiritual lives, simply based on what we think or cannot do. My challenge in this devotional is that we would start to see ourselves as Christ sees us. Realize that you can run your race not because you are good enough, but because He is!
I want to encourage you to run your race, win your prize, and become who God has created you to be. Trust in His gift to develop yours. You are worth it, you are called.
I may never dunk a basketball but I promise you can fulfill your calling as you run your race in Christ.
Scriptures | “No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”
Philippians 3:13-14 NLT
…run the race…
